Present and past letter, …
According to Wikipedia, “The letter is a means of communication to convey information in writing by one party to the other party.” It is a grapheme (written character) in an alphabetic system of writing, such as the Greek alphabet and its descendants. Letters compose phonemes and each phoneme represents a phone (sound) in the spoken form of the language. Letters also appear in abjads (alphabets with consonants only).

In my childhood era, when the
Internet was not yet to be king of the world, one of the communication
tool….yeah only the letter. Aiiihhhh … only letter? Yeah, and it is with a
handwritten letter. A letter that we had to wait for weeks to arrive to the
receiver, depending on the value of stamps. But now, it is amazing!
Letters
have advanced in many things. We send letter by email,… and swiiiinnngg … just
in seconds the letter is received. Furthermore SMS also has made the new way of
communication. However, actually what a sad for me it is…. letters which I
received at home at most only package, credit card bills, and others..
I have romantic remembrance of
handwritten letter. For me it is beautiful and has power in many things. I
remember this when my teacher had ever taught me and my classmates at our
school. Our teacher explained several techniques to improve the “magical power”
of a letter. The first and the most important is to pray before writing a
letter. Let God be played His role when we write a letter. Another things to
remember is, “when writing the letter, we should be able to imagine the reader
as if he or she is in front of us”, every words that we as if he heard them at
the time. The words should be filled with feeling and emotional.
In addition if the letter is about
sorrow or sadness… imagine he is crying. When it is about taste … imagine he
was intrigued, when it was about joking… imagine he was laughing. If it’s about
love … imagine he is flattered. A letter should be written with feeling as if
the reader has one heart with us. Even thought our hand writing was bad…. When
falling in love and want to send a letter, we try to write it beautifully.
That’s why sometimes we use third person to write the letter.
Now letters and writings are so
rigid in “Times New Roman, Arial, etc” there is no thrilling there … no
beautiful painted letters which is written by trembling heart. No more letter
with tears on the white paper … or seal lips with lipstick. Now we received
letter in electronic…all are the same and make no more sense or emotion. Eventhought
our sense may be camouflaged with the many options beautiful letter or a number
of poems that we copy-paste. SMS, E-mail, Whats app, BB Messenger too easy and
fast for our right brain that the brain is not given time to wander in
imagination .. and at last we copy-paste feeling…emotion of others .. and as
the result it would be different from what we want.
When I was in Junior High school…I
had a pen friend from abroad. Receiving letters from him caused my feeling was
very excited. The letter was beautiful…. and I don’t know why it gave me
happiness very much. I showed off them to my classmate. I was proud with them. Then I remembered also when asking
permission to the teacher because I would be absent from school, my parent
should write and send a letter. And sometimes when I was lazy to study at
school, I copied them, rewrite again as if it was came from my parents and then
hangout with friend, hahaha…..
